On 15, 22 and 24 March, the first Sahel-Europe Dialogue Forum was held, organised by the Centre for International Security of the Francisco de Vitoria University Institute of International Politics. In this forum for dialogue between stakeholders from the Sahel, the Maghreb and Europe, common security risks and challenges were analysed, proposing solutions to our common challenges. The political crisis in Mali and the tense elections in November in Burkina Faso and December and February in Niger link the security crisis to the challenges of governance in these states, where the presence of ethnic and community self-defence militias and jihadist groups makes economic and social development difficult. Added to these challenges is the pandemic, which has severely affected the economies of the region, increasing extreme poverty, malnutrition and migration.
